EBS Lesson Eight Introducing root and fifth
Worth two beats.
In Exercise 4, you will see a note that is new to you. This is a half note.
As its name suggests, a half note is worth half of a bar of common time. Since a bar of common time is worth four (4) beats, a half note is, therefore, worth two (2) beats.
As you can see from the diagram above, a half note has a stem. The stem can point upwards or downwards.
As I am sure you can understand, there are many different possibilities and as a bass player you need to develop the skill of being able to play root and fifth patterns combining many different root notes.
Here is a challenging study that combines not only different root notes, but also different note values. Make good use of the supportive multimedia files and work through the exercise slowly, making sure you are getting it right. Build the speed as you become more comfortable with the exercise and the skills you are developing.
You finished this lesson, well done. Share your achievement with your friends!
