EGS Lesson Five  Developing rock guitar rhythm playing 2 – palm muting with accents

Lesson Objectives

Introducing accents with palm muting

In the previous lesson we learnt how to play with palm muting on eighth notes whilst incorporating other note values which were un-muted.

When playing a common rock groove with palm muted eighth notes we often need to accent certain beats. This is achieved by lifting the plectrum hand off the bridge on the beat that we wish to accent.

The hand has to return immediately to the bridge in order to mute the next beat.

Watch the video which shows how you un-mute during palm muting to create accents.
