Playing the hi-hat with the cymbals closed

Now Lesson 1 really requires you to play the hi-hats with your stick, with them closed, to get a nice crisp tight sound.

To do that we put a foot on the hi-hat pedal, which brings the top hi-hat down on top of the bottom hi-hat.

To make sure that we can keep them closed tightly together, without using too much energy, we push our foot to the top of the plate and keep our toes right up to the chain.

That is playing a closed hi-hat.
