Treble and bass clefs

At the beginning of the stave there is a symbol called a ‘clef’. The two most common clefs are treble clef and bass clef. The type of clef shown at the beginning of the stave determines the names of the notes at each position above, below or on the stave. The most commonly used clef is the treble clef.

The higher the notes are on the stave, the higher the pitch of the note.

When the treble clef is at the beginning of the stave, the notes on the lines of the stave are as follows:

When the treble clef is at the beginning of the stave, the notes in the spaces are as follows:
